Student of the Week

Our student of the week is Joshua Arnett. Great job Joshua... Keep up the good work!

Most of what I really need to know about how to live, what to do, and how to be, I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom did not lie at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in a kindergarten classroom. ~Robert Fulghum

Week of August 31

Dear Parents,

We had a great week in Kindergarten!  We had so much fun reading Hickory Dickory Dock and participating in all our activities.

Next week we will be reading Old Mother Hubbard.  If you have a dog, have your child bring in a picture to show the class.  We did not start the reading series this week, therefore we will also be reading “The Little School Bus”.  We will be learning about how we get to school. We will also be reviewing all the colors.  Please have your child wear the “color of the day” if he/she can:

Monday- brown

There was a “tree” in your child’s folder.  Please use this to create a family tree.  You may use pictures, names, or whatever you would like.  Please return them no later than Thursday, September 3.  They will be on display for the grandparents to view.

Special Notes

Grandparents day will be Friday, September 4th from 8:00-9:30.  We will enjoy breakfast in the classroom, read special books about grandparents, and have the grandparents share special memories from when they were in Kindergarten.   Parents, if your child does not have a grandparent, please feel free to join us.

We review the “Science Weekly” in class together.  If you would like to review it with your child you are more than welcome to.  We will be completing science experiments on Thursdays and Fridays.

Blankets go home every Friday to be washed and returned on Monday.

DES shirts will soon go on sale.  If you would like to view the design in color, visit the DES website

About Me

My photo
I have been teaching for four years, currently this is my third year in Kindergarten. I received my initial education from Old Dominion University, where I received a Bachelor of Science Degree. I then completed my Master of Arts Degree in Education from Union University. I am currently working on my Reading Specialist Certification, and hope to be accepted into the Education Specialist program in the Spring of 2010. I love helping children discover the love of reading and all the doors it can open for them in the future. My husband is in the Coast Guard, and I have two beautiful daughters, Lilian and Aniston.
